Job Description

Free Agency represents and manages careers in tech. Hollywood entertainers & athletes have talent agents — shouldn’t you? We currently work with clients (Free Agents) who work in the technology industry broadly, driving their searches for new jobs and/or helping them succeed at their jobs. We’ve raised $5.35M from amazing investors, including Resolute Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Ludlow Ventures, and more.

Our Talent team manages individual talent in a similar way that an agent or broker in another industry might represent a buyer or seller. We charge these Free Agents a percentage of income over time for our services, and so our incentives are totally aligned with finding them high-fit, high-paying jobs. Our Free Agents are primarily mid-to-senior candidates in the tech industry with roles in software engineering, product management, marketing, operations, and other functional areas within tech-forward organizations.

These Free Agents work at companies like Amazon, Uber, Square, Tinder, SpaceX, Google, and Netflix. They also work at emerging startups backed by top-tier venture capitalists, including Sequoia, USV, Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, Index, and Benchmark.

Some of what we provide is digital, such as tools to track skills, interesting opportunities, and overall career progress. Most of what we provide is concierge service, fueled by our Talent Agents who pair closely with Free Agents on their job search or career success.

We’re looking for more Talent Agents to come manage our Free Agents. You’ll use your relationship management skills, passion for tech, and savvy about the industry to help our candidates progress and thrive in their careers. You’ll not only help them with any active job search, but you’ll also work with them on their longer-term goals.

On any given day, this might mean helping them evaluate a job offer, prepare for a panel interview, or negotiate during a performance review. You’ll also network and collaborate with employers on the other side to make introductions and check in on status. You might facilitate sessions with executive coaches, management trainers, or subject matter experts. Finally, you could find yourself working with a client on their personal brand, 30-60-90 day plans, or weekly work therapy sessions.

Your expected responsibilities:

  • Engage with top Free Agents in tech, building strong relationships with your clients as you help them build their careers
  • Provide best-in-class advice across inflection points, including interviews, negotiation, performance reviews, and career choices
  • Reach out to top tech employers & startups to generate interviews, check in on status, assist in negotiation, and drive placement
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to help your clients, including career coaches, executive coaches, and subject matter experts
  • Keep up to date and doing research within the tech industry, knowing where your clients should go next and staying savvy on the news
  • Plan with clients on long-term career goals, including individuals already in leadership positions, including success inside a particular job
  • Track metrics across your portfolio of managed Free Agents to prioritize your time, understand success, and drive outcomes
  • Interact with a community of mentors, alumni, and hiring managers to foster ongoing relationships with the Free Agency brand and network

Things you may want to know:

  • We are currently working home during COVID-19. However, this will be a full-time, on-site role in New York City once things are safe again, and this is non-negotiable.
  • Most of the above interactions with Free Agents take place over email, Slack, Zoom, and phone calls, so you should be comfortable often being on calls.
  • We are currently seeking out more senior individuals who have experience or knowledge in the tech industry, such that they could properly advise senior-to-C-level individuals on their careers.

Internally, we expect you to mostly collaborate with:

  • The co-founders.
  • Others on the Talent team.
