About Kymera Therapeutics

Kymera Therapeutics is a biotechnology company pioneering a transformative new approach to treating previously untreatable diseases. The company is advancing the field of targeted protein degradation, accessing the body’s innate protein recycling machinery to degrade rather than inhibit dysregulated, disease-causing proteins. Powered by a proprietary predictive modeling capability and a game-changing integrated degradation platform, Kymera is accelerating drug discovery with an unmatched ability to target and degrade the most intractable of proteins, and advance new treatment options for patients.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal Scientist in Targeted Proteomics to join our team at Kymera Therapeutics. The successful candidate will establish targeted mass spectrometry infrastructure, develop assays and analyze samples to further help the group address key issues in Targeted Protein Degradation drug and biomarker discovery efforts. This candidate will be expected to generate high quality data and be able to effectively communicate the results to the project team. The candidate will collaborate with a diverse group of individuals and functions throughout the company.

Kymera Therapeutics is a biotechnology company pioneering a transformational new modality called targeted protein degradation (TPD), leveraging the body’s own protein recycling machinery, the Ubiquitin Proteasome System (UPS), to degrade disease-causing proteins and pursue disease targets long considered undruggable. Using our proprietary Pegasus drug development platform, we are discovering and developing novel, heterobifunctional molecules, that optimize the key elements of the UPS to deliver new oral therapies to address significant, unmet medical needs.

Kymera is rapidly advancing toward the clinic with our first program in immune-inflammatory disease slated to begin clinical studies in the first half of 2021 and additional programs in oncology indications entering the clinic in the second half of 2021. The company also continues to expand the reach of its protein degrader therapies through strategic partnerships with companies including Vertex Pharmaceuticals and most recently, Sanofi.

Kymera has recently designed new offices and lab space at the Arsenal Yards development in Watertown.  We offer free parking and a free transportation shuttle from Harvard Square during commute hours.

  • Develop and optimize infrastructure for targeted proteomics analysis workflow in-house (identify and procure state of the art instrumentation, develop and integrate internal and pre-existing protocols).
  • Work with project teams to identify targeted proteomics assays need, establish workplan and deliver timely results.
  • Targeted protein biomarker assay development using state of the art liquid-chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) platforms including nano-LC, orbitrap or UPLC-QQQ MS for PD readouts, SAR optimization, E3 ligase profiling or biomarker quantification for patient stratification.
  • Prepare samples from a wide variety of starting matrices (cultured cells, tumor models, biofluids, etc)
  • Perform data analysis utilizing commercially available or free proteomics software (Skyline, MaxQuant, Spectronaut, etc).
  • Provide maintenance, quality control and troubleshooting for instruments including HPLCs and mass spectrometers.
  • Stay up to date with state of the art in the field of targeted proteomics and mass spectrometry.

  •  PhD in Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Biology or related discipline, with 8+ years targeted  mass spectrometry-based proteomics experience, preferably in an industry or small startup setting.
  • Widespread experience in targeted proteomics is required including:
    • Maintaining and troubleshooting HPLCs and mass spectrometers
    • Developing targeted MS methods to follow protein or small molecule targets across a wide dynamic range from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, analyze, and interpret targeted proteomics data with attention to detail, to recommend and execute next steps.
  • Ability to conduct multiple laboratory and project tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate data and methodology to team in an efficient and coherent fashion
