Job Description

A Day in the Life of

You will help change the landscape of the small satellite industry, be an integral and unique part of a close-knit team of individuals operating in a high energy environment, changing the fundamental fabric of how humanity puts things into space. As a Payload Integration Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of the vehicle payload interface as well as customer payload integration and mission success. This is a full-time position located at our new Long Beach, CA facility.

Your Mission:

  • Responsible for the design, analysis and testing of launch vehicle payload interfaces
  • Responsible engineer and point of contact for launch vehicle payload interfaces and payload integration efforts working with customer engineering teams
  • Develop and maintain the Payload User’s Guides
  • Develop and implement payload integration processes and program
  • Payloads include small satellites, instrumentation packages, projectiles and proprietary payload packages
  • Collaborate with Mission Managers and Business Development to address mission requirements and needs
  • Perform payload safety and readiness evaluations
  • Support launch campaigns including payload integration, logistics, testing, verification, analyses
  • Participate in proposal and contract development Manage stakeholder communications on mission progress

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering or Science
  • 3+ years of experience in payload interface design, integration, systems engineering, or mission management
  • Experience in design and analysis of launch vehicle/payload – full life cycle (requirements, released drawings to procuring/building hardware)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding startup atmosphere
  • Understanding of export compliance restrictions and technology transfer controls (ex. EAR, ITAR)
  • Broad technical foundation and strong project management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Strongly Desirable:

  • Advanced degree(s) in Engineering or Science
  • 5+ years of experience in payload interface design, integration, systems engineering, or mission management
  • Experience in interface design and integration of small satellites with launch vehicles, mechanical, electrical and communication interfaces
  • Experience with static and dynamic structural design and analysis
  • Experience with hands-on rapid prototyping and testing
  • Experience in field and launch operations with launch vehicles
  • Professional design/development experience in the development of satellite systems with expertise in one or more specific spacecraft subsystems
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles and practices across spacecraft applications of engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, thermal logic, computer application.
