We are currently looking for a Director, Software Engineering to lead cross-disciplinary teams of engineers for LIMS, Data Engineering, DevOps and Instruments software to architect and execute on Synthego’s technical roadmap in advancing Synthego’s cutting edge technologies in genomic engineering.
What You'll Do
Build and drive the vision and strategy of Synthego’s software development roadmap with an emphasis on improving execution and team culture
Provide technical leadership: articulate high-level technical strategy, encourage technical discussions, establish unified principles for software development, and facilitate code reviews to drive the shipping of quality code into production and other development efforts
Build, grow, and retain an excellent engineering team to innovate, invent, and deploy best-in-class software. Develop and grow this talent through effective mentoring and coaching
Support recruiting efforts for engineering personnel, project team formation, and organizational design as the team scales
Create and launch platform initiatives from conception to deployment using modern open source technologies
Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the delivery and success of Software Engineering team output, specifically focusing on areas involving a mix of lab informatics and software engineering challenges
Assure the availability, scalability, and performance of application software your team delivers
About You
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
5+ years of direct experience managing a multidisciplinary software engineering team
A demonstrated ability to structure, grow, and optimize a team for execution, including attracting top-tier talent and filling out gaps in the existing team quickly to accommodate growth
8+ years of programming experience with a track record of building and deploying software as part of a high-functioning team
Experience with project management, prioritization, and resource planning
Background in risk management and resource planning, particularly in startup environments
Nice to Haves
MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
Experience partnering with scientists and researchers to build products that support experimentation
Experience in biotechnology, bioinformatics, manufacturing, or similar field
Exposure to “big data,” especially biological and clinical data
