Job Description 

 

Binary Fountain is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Tysons Corner, VA.  The role is part of our engineering team and we are looking for someone to help drive the next round of infrastructure improvements within our SaaS platform and also support next generation, modern SPA from the backend perspective. We operate 100% on AWS infrastructure and ingest, process and surfaces millions of data points on a daily basis.  We are passionate advocates of cloud technologies and use AWS for almost all our needs including S3, Lambdas, EMR, step functions, SQS/SNS, CodeDeploy, Cloudwatch, ECR with containerization processing heavy transaction volume reading and writing from non-relational datastores. 

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

- Participate in full software development lifecycle with bias for rapid delivery. 

 

- Design, build and support backend development using a variety of technologies, platforms and paradigms – Java, Spring, SQL and noSQL data stores, queueing, messaging, streams etc. 

 

- Work with a large number of AWS services – RDS, Redshift, ECS, EKS, MKS, EMR, Lambdas to name a few. 

 

- Maneuver through multiple and very large data sources. 

 

- Manage deployments in cloud stack – AWS, Github, Continuous Integration and delivery (CI/D). 

 

- Provide technical leadership for complex interdependent workstreams and assist in breaking down work for multiple onshore and offshore developers.  

 

- Be a go-to resource for complex, technical problems. 

 

- Demonstrate ability to incorporate experience, fresh perspectives and industry standard approaches towards problem solving.  

 

- Work with project management to manage task estimation, release plans and software delivery. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

 

- 5+ years’ experience building custom, n-tier applications in a cloud environment. 

 

- Knowledge of modern cloud development principles (CAP theorem, RDD, cloud scaling, containers etc.) 

 

- Experience with concurrency issues arising from highly distributed architectures. 

 

- Experience with very large data sets. 

 

- Expertise in relational (mySQL, Postgres) and non-relational data stores (Cassandra, DynamoDB).  

 

- Experience in modern development tools and principles (e.g. Gitflow, RabbitMQ, Redis, Lambda, others) 

 

- Ability to think between relational and non-relational data and ETL processes to transform from one to another. 

 

- Experience in Git (preferably Github), Bitbucket or other modern code repositories. 

 

- Experience with automation/build tools like Maven, Jenkins, CI and others. 

 

- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms. 

 

- Exposure to cloud provisioning technologies like CloudFormation, Terraform etc. 

 

- Strong ability to juggle multiple priorities. 

 

- Strong bias for action and ownership. 

 

- BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering or related field. 

 

Bonus 

Previous startup experience would be a huge plus 

Desire to innovate and spread across cross-functional technologies (React, AWS, Security, QA processes etc.)
