Job Description

The Director of In-Patient Acute Services is responsible for supporting Somatus’ mission, vision, values and customer service philosophy.  He/she will direct and oversees the certification and operations of all five In-Patient facilities ensuring effective facility operations in accordance with all clinical, legal, compliance and regulatory requirements and programs.

  • Collaborates with VP of Operations, Medical Directors, Somatus Group Administrator Facility Managers, and Clinical Coordinators (CC), where applicable, regarding the provision of high-quality patient care and compliance with the pertinent company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the administration of business operations for inpatient acute dialysis programs including directing the functions and actions related to the quality of overall provision of patient care, verification of equipment maintenance, audits, and inventory
  • Manages profit and loss and other related financial and clinical aspects for the inpatient’s programs ensuring optimal operations to achieve or exceed the budget and key performance indicators.
  • Collaboration activities include:
    • Assisting as needed with patient workflow, monitoring pre, intra, and post procedures as
    • Implementing and maintaining a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Process Improvement Team that involves staff and pertinent physicians in problem solving activities meeting on a regular basis to address identified
    • Continually reviewing department operations to ensure compliance with federal and state laws. Ensures compliance with all state agency
  • Develops and maintains strong Medical Director and physician relationships, facilitating staff relationships with physicians, and ensures regular and effective communication with all physicians including participating in regular meetings with Medical
  • Supports and drives Somatus quality standards through meeting regulatory requirements and the practice of QAPI, including the use of the appropriate company QAPI
    • Works with Facility Managers, Clinical Coordinators, and Medical Directors to implement Somatus quality goals and develop specific action plans to achieve Somatus quality
    • Oversees and monitors the provision of the appropriate training according to Somatus policy to ensure ongoing
    • Collaborates with Facility Managers or Clinical Coordinators to ensure the delivery of timely treatment and proper adherence to Somatus’ policies and procedures related to adverse
    • Ensures all Quality policies and procedures are communicated to and implemented in each program.
    • Maintains integrity of medical records and other Somatus administrative and operational
    • Complies and assists with all EPIC data collection and auditing
  • Fills in periodically for Facility Managers to manage the day to day activities and workload of the facility staff providing guidance and leadership as appropriate to ensure the effective, efficient and timely execution of duties and
    • Creates, maintains, and communicates efficient and timely employee schedules according to the staffing needs of the program to ensure adequate staffing. Consults with Clinical Coordinators and Medical Director to optimize clinical
    • Maintains ongoing communication with Quick Connection on-call services to provide off duty urgent nurse and doctor
    • Provides informal feedback to staff on an ongoing basis and formal feedback in the form of the annual performance evaluation during the performance review process. Obtains feedback and input regarding the staff performance from the Medical Director and Clinical Coordinators and acts on the feedback as appropriate. Collaborates with Facility Managers, Clinical Coordinators and VP of Operations to set annual goals for staff. Will utilize Director as the second RN as needed.
    • Maintains written documentation of all disciplinary meetings in accordance with the established personnel policies and confers with Human Resources and the Vice President of Operations regarding the nature of the disciplinary
    • Assist with outpatient employees’ new hire orientation and training and works with Facility Managers and Medical Directors to ensure mandatory in-services are
    • Ensures appropriate documentation is completed for current licensure, annual in- service and policy and procedure in-service
    • Responsible for ensuring all facility employees receive appropriate trainings according to company
    • Directs the training and guidance to Facility Managers to ensure development of managerial/clinical competencies providing opportunities for encouraging professional and personal growth.
    • Participates in employee recognition and satisfaction
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the Vice President of Operations and corporate office personnel, and ensures appropriate communication of Somatus initiatives, policies and procedures to facility
  • Utilizes knowledge of Somatus services and products to contribute to the growth of the business.

  • Oversees inventory/supply management by reviewing monthly inventory count and approving purchase orders for necessary items to ensure cost containment, timely distribution and competitive
  • Oversees efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals following all guidelines
  • Contributes to the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facilities and the pertinent updating and maintenance of the related
  • Directs any necessary information gathering, as required, to support
  • Responsible for leading all on-site internal and external (State and Federal) surveys.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Day to day work includes desk and personal computer work and interaction with patients, facility staff and physicians. The position requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community. Travel to corporate meetings may be required. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and core hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires longer hours and frequent weekend work. Shifts may last 12 hours.


Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Valid RN license to practice in Virginia.
  • 5 years of related clinical experience, preferably in population health, ambulatory care, community public health, case or care management, or coordinating care across multiple settings and with multiple providers.        

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree or other advanced degree in nursing, social work, business, health services research, health policy, information technology, or other relevant fields preferred
  • 6+ years of related clinical experience, preferably in healthcare management experience.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - experience with medical database software
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies and management skills for the position, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, results orientation, team building, motivating employees, performance management and decision
  • Demonstrated management skills necessary to provide leadership in the supervision of Managers, facility personnel and to ensure the delivery of maximum quality care to all patients

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in state of Virginia must maintain mandated continuing education requirements.
  • Familiarity with health care laws, regulations and standards.
  • Understanding of coding and reimbursement systems, risk management and performance improvement helpful.
