Your role and your team: 

You will report directly to the Head of Mechanical Engineering. The Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for designing and developing the structural components of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through detailed design, testing and serial production.

From parts to systems development you'll play a key role in bringing our innovative aircraft to life.

As Senior Mechanical Engineer acting as the Thermal Management System Lead you will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) responsible for the development of the Thermal Management System conditioning the cabin and the battery our Lilium Jet from prototype until serial production. You will liaise with relevant stakeholders and design leads to define requirements and coordinate the development of components within the system. Furthermore, you will also mentor Mechanical and Design Engineers.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Lead the Development of the Thermal Management System from concept to serial production
  • Integrate functional, structural, thermal, material, certification, manufacturing und maintenance aspects into the design
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing, integration, and test processes and procedures
  • Assist in supplier selection
  • Manage the interfaces with other systems
  • Define and manage requirements
  • Create, review and approve certification related documentation
  • Provide guidance in certification related matters
  • Ensure high-quality engineering standards, responsible for the design documentation
  • Ensure the development of the system meet the cost targets and the timeline. 
  • Continuously monitor and grow the design maturity level
  • Provide regular updates to the IPT Leader on the engineering design progress
  • Mentor colleagues to aerospace best practices and methods
  • Take active part in the hiring process and help us find excellent engineers  
  • Constantly learn new things – and share them with your team members
  • Work on any ad hoc related projects or tasks

 

Your Profile:

  • Masters Degree or PhD in Aeronautics, Physics, Thermal / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the aerospace or automotive industry is essential
  • Experience with thermal systems development and strong thermal engineering background is essential
  • Strong project management and technical leadership skills are required
  • Proven professional experience with type certification methods is desired
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to integrate state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods into product concepts and designs is required
  • Experience developing and working to system requirements is required
  • Experience with working with various suppliers and managing deliverables is required
  • Excellent understanding of general design principles and technical correlations is required
  • Strong motivation to help build structures and processes is required
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
