Job Description

Seeking Assay Development Scientist I/II - Molecular Biology to Join Our Expanding Team; Microbiology and Assay Development Experience a Plus Nuclease Probe Technologies, Inc., (NPT), founded by James McNamara, Ph.D., is an early stage, privately-backed company with a unique approach to infectious disease diagnostics. NPT is engaged in the research, development, and commercialization of innovative infectious disease diagnostic tests, based on our proprietary Nuclease Activated Probe, or NucAP™ technology. The NucAP™ technology has been clinically demonstrated to detect bacterial pathogens that cause bloodstream infections. The NuCAP™ test can provide results within three hours, culture-free, compared to three to five days required by traditional laboratory methods. NPT is assembling a team of scientists and researchers to develop an assay capable of detecting 70% to 80% of the most pathogenic bacteria causing bloodstream infections. We are looking for highly capable individuals with industry experience who can fill the immediate needs of the company and who are well positioned to grow as the company expands. ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The key responsibility will be, working with a team, to develop a new easy-to-use, ultrasensitive, fast, diagnostic platform for infectious disease diagnostics with an initial focus on bloodstream pathogens. The applicants should enjoy the environment and opportunities in a start-up where resourceful, handson, proactive, and multitasking are a must. The Sr. Assay Development Scientist – Molecular Biology roles and responsibility are:

  • This position is for a non-entry level scientist with diagnostics industry and product development experience working under design control is expected.
  • Key skills include assay development and optimization, verification and validation.
  • Knowledge and expertise in immunoassays, ELISA, molecular biology, molecular diagnostics, data and statistical analysis, are relevant.
  • Protein expression, purification, and analysis
  • Manipulate broth and standard plate-based media for the culture of BSL-1 and BSL-2 organisms.
  • Lyse organisms, isolate proteins, perform immuno-precipitation and other studies.
  • When necessary, learn new assay techniques and apply them to the project at hand.
  • Analyze and summarize results of assays and clearly and concisely communicate those results to colleagues.
  • Working within a design control and familiarity with quality systems is important.
  • The successful candidate will have clear and effective written and verbal technical communication.
  • Knowledge of antibody discovery through hybridoma technology, designing bacterial knockout experiments, and screening of antibody candidates.
  • 3+ years of industry experience is required.
  • Effectively manages available resources, distributes assignments and delegates workload as needed to achieve timely execution of projects, works with cross functional teams (internal and external teams) to execute plans and set deliverables.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision. Capable of designing and interpreting experiments, workplan and execution with minimal direction.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:

 

  • The applicants should have a minimum of BS/MS degree with a PhD degree preferred with. Life Sciences and Diagnostics industry experience required.
  • Capable of design of experiment, data analysis and ability to troubleshoot and course correct as needed to achieve the experimental aims and design goals while working with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are a must. Understands the differentiation and utilization of data-driven deep dives and high-level summaries. Has outstanding time management abilities.
  • Strong sense of urgency, can-do attitude, and motivational skills to get the best out of the coworkers. Is vertically and horizontally integrated within the whole workflow.
  • Loves and thrives in a fast paced and demanding startup environment.
