The Assignment…

We are looking for an organic chemist to join the R&D Team as Senior Scientist or higher, depending on experience. The successful candidate will bring their knowledge organic and analytical chemistry to develop the next generation of surfactants to power our growing single-cell product offerings. You will develop new hydrophobic compounds and surfactants, formulate them, and test their properties in a microfluidic system. Responsibilities include identifying key specifications for incoming raw materials, identifying and optimizing synthetic routes, developing analytical tests for these products, formulating non-aqueous continuous phases and testing for suitability in current and future single-cell microfluidic products.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None currently, but in the future may direct research associates in either a direct or matrix management arrangement.

What’s Required (QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The candidate should have

  1. A PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry field with at least 3+ years of post-PhD experience, or a Masters with at least 5+ years of industry experience, or a Bachelors with at least 10+ years of industry experience.
  2. Hands-on experience synthesizing organic compounds.
  3. Hands-on experience with analytical chemistry techniques such as NMR, HPLC, TLC, FTIR, and MS.
  4. Experience with characterization of hydrophobic compounds commonly used in emulsions and surfactants.
  5. A solid understanding of detergent chemistry and surfactant interactions.
  6. Experience with fluoropolymers and fluorosurfactants a plus.
  7. Experience with microfluidic systems a plus.
  8. Excellent skills in a team interactive environment including communication, documentation, and time management.
