Site Reliability Engineer at Strateos

We Are:

Strateos has developed the first robotic cloud laboratory platform for on-demand life science research by integrating laboratory processes, instruments and IoT technologies into a single user interface. Top ten pharmaceutical companies and emerging biotech companies use the platform to conduct efficient, reproducible and rapid experimentation from anywhere in the world.  Most recently Strateos has been selected to partner with Eli Lilly to develop and operate an 11,500 square ft fully automated compound synthesis and bioassay system.

We Want:

The Site Reliability Engineer's objective is to essentially "make things scale" which includes: building software that automates experiences, developing tools that provide insights/metrics, and providing instrumentation for the Engineering teams to more efficiently scale up the platform's performance.

 

  • Build and maintain the platform on which Strateos builds, deploys and monitors applications serving the Cloud Lab
  • Ensure Strateos’ multi-site robotic Cloud Lab is fully operational by leveraging modern cloud native practices
  • Find opportunities to drive efficiencies in our hardware and software platforms as well as improving or automating manual processes
  • Develop software to automate routine tasks, infrastructure management, and validate changes
  • Be responsible for evangelizing best practices for application architecture and observability, working with developers to ensure that applications meet Strateos' criteria for stability, resiliency, security, etc.
  • Provide on-call services for production systems
  • Contribute to scaling build, test, and deployment pipelines

You Have:

  • Lived experience running Kubernetes in production
  • Know your way around the OSI networking model, with deep knowledge of Layer 2 to 4
  • Edge computing, in particular, any experience with: IoFog, Balena, KubeEdge
  • You take an Ops-centric approach to everything you build, ensuring availability, performance, reliability, scalability, observability, and security are core components
  • You have intimate knowledge with one of the Strateos’ core programming languages: Java, Scala, Ruby, Python, Go
  • You are able to inspire other people to work with you, and you enjoy mentoring and coaching engineers
  • You act like an owner and strive to do the work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions
  • At least two years of professional experience
  • Willingness to travel to partner sites as needed
