Description:Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Product Development/Integration Engineer responsible for the development of OpGen next generation optical mapping product offerings. The candidate will plan and execute development programs for OpGen cartridge-based disposables. Will perform Verification and Validation studies on pre-production and early production optical mapping systems. Additionally, will help maintain and enhance OpGen’s existing optical mapping platform through process development, metric development and establishment of process controls.
Primary Job Functions

• Collaborate with staff in multi-disciplinary teams to develop Life Science and Diagnostic commercial systems combining Micro-fluidics, Biochemistry, Optics and Software.

• Design protocols and perform experiments related to company’s optical mapping processes and product development efforts – including system verification and validation testing.

• Develop, validate and transfer methods for manufacturing disposable components of the optical mapping product line. Develop, validate and transfer QC procedures. Optimize processes and develop and transfer appropriate process controls.

• Identify and qualify vendors for the disposable components of the optical mapping product line.

• Assist in general product engineering functions as required.

• Champion and drive process improvement throughout the organization.
Education/Skills/Attributes Required

• BS or MS in Engineering or Biomedical Engineering, or other scientific/engineering discipline plus 3 to 5 years of experience.

• Working knowledge of optical/mechanical/electrical CAD/CAM work systems.

• Prior experience in product and process development.

• Experience with precision optical systems, micro-fluidics, soft lithography, image acquisition/processing, electronic and mechanical systems, and systems design work.

• Experience preparing design requirements documentation, and system/subsystem test and evaluation plans.

• Experience developing, qualifying and transferring processes to product manufacturing organization.

• Experience developing and implementing effective system process controls.

• Self motivated with good time management skills and detail oriented.

• Good documentation and presentation skills using MS Office suite.

• Experience with wet chemistry techniques, experience with handling of DNA samples preferred.

• Software and computer systems development skills.

• Experience with MS Office.

• Excellent written and verbal communications, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate within the broad range of the organization – from lab technicians to senior management.

• Able to act and perform independently within assigned area of responsibility.

• Collect and provide key performance data that assists in overall program direction.

• Understanding and experience with using basic descriptive statistics, experience with standard statistical analysis computer packages preferred.

• Experience with development and implementation of system performance metrics.
