Position Summary
We are seeking a scientist with experience in analysis and annotation of microbial genomes to support pre-clinical studies exploring the role of genomic variation in human infections. Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, this individual would be primarily responsible for strain acquisition, database management, data analysis and genome annotation. Experience with genome analysis software would be advantageous, but not essential.
Primary Job Functions
- Be responsible for maintaining, building and annotating OpGen's microbial database, including strain acquisition
- Be primarily responsible for genomic analysis, annotation and data reporting on collaborative microbial analysis projects.
- Provide expertise in the use of commercial genomic analysis software, as well as OpGen proprietary software
- Work with internal research and development to ensure that products and services meet customer needs.
- Provide data to support sales and marketing activities, including posters, papers and presentations, and advise on potential commercial projects and collaborations.
Education/Skills/Attributes Required
- BA/BS in a biology, microbiology or genetics -related degree
- 3+ years relevant experience in an academic or commercial organization engaged in genome analysis
- Experience in analyzing and annotating genomic DNA, particularly microbial genomes
- Proficiency with DNA analysis software packages such as LaserGene, or equivalent, as well as Microsoft Office Products
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to effectively articulate complex, technical information to non-IT professionals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required. Some travel is required. |
