NetBase Grabs $9 Million in Funding After 2009 Saw Customer Base Grow by Over 300 Percent

by Tim Ruiz on March 04, 2010

The explosion of blogs and other social media on the Internet has posed a significant challenge to many organizations, which often must devote considerable resources towards sifting through mountains of information. It’s for this reason that NetBase has had its hands full in helping companies manage their searches in an affordable manner. To keep up with the demand for their services, NetBase recently closed a round of Series C financing worth $9 million led by Altos Ventures and Thomvest Ventures.

NetBase helps companies manage information through a method dubbed Insight Discovery, which captures sentence patterns as a means of finding relevant data. NetBase is able to scan millions of search results to determine meaning and context as well as sort search results based on relevance, not just keyword matches. NetBase enables its customers to find information across the entire spectrum of sources, including documents, social media postings, and premium content.

The new funds will help NetBase build the resources necessary to meet the growing demand for more refined search queries, expanding the company’s sales, marketing, business development, and product management. NetBase will also expand its hosted cloud operations. The multi-department expansion is sign of the growing demand for NetBase’s services, as 2009 saw the company expand its workforce by more than 30 percent to meet the needs of a customer base that grew by over 300 percent.
