	Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (formerly Microbia) is an entrepreneurial pharmaceutical company dedicated to the art and science of great drugmaking. Job Description:

The successful candidate will join the Medicinal Chemistry group to support the identification of high quality drug candidates. The candidate will operate in a hands-on laboratory setting while serving as a key intellectual contributor within: (1) lead identification/optimization efforts within all existing projects and (2) conception/implementation of new projects aimed at enhancing Ironwood?s ever-growing pipeline.

- Design, synthesize and characterize molecules as part of Ironwood's lead identification and optimization efforts;

- Evaluate potency, pharmacokinetic and ADME information; develop Structure Activity Relationships based on thorough understanding of drug-like properties;

- Work as part of an integrated team of biologists, pharmacologists, and (bio)analytical and development chemists towards the identification of high quality drug candidates for the advancement into clinical development;

- Participate in the generation and evaluation of new project ideas as part of Ironwood's small molecule pipeline;

- Participate in the development of Ironwood's intellectual property position on various projects;

- Act as an exemplary scientific leader to junior scientists in the Medicinal Chemistry group.

- Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 7+ years of relevant industry experience;

- In depth knowledge of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry;

- Hands-on experience in analytical instrumentation and relevant techniques such as HPLC and NMR;

- Thorough understanding of drug-like properties; working knowledge of the underlying principles of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics;

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
