Job Title: Senior Research Associate

Avila Therapeutics
100 Beaver Street
Waltham 02453
www.avilatx.com

Avila Therapeutics™ is pioneering a method to generate and develop new medicines that achieve ‘protein silencing’ based on the proprietary Avilomics™ platform. These medicines, called covalent drugs, strongly and resiliently bond to disease-causing proteins, resulting in therapies that are highly effective against a broad spectrum of human diseases. The covalent bonding mechanism of Avila’s drugs has the unique property of effectively ‘silencing’ disease-causing proteins by establishing a strong and enduring ‘bond’ – exceeding the more temporary ‘binding’ of conventional drugs – to completely shut down the activity of and silence a disease-causing protein. Avila’s covalent drugs have exceptional therapeutic benefits because they are highly targeted, are effective against mutations and have a long duration of action.

Job Description:
Avila Therapeutics is seeking a qualified Senior Research Associate to join the Molecular and Cellular Biology
group. The successful candidate will perform mechanism-of-action studies and investigate molecular signaling
pathways downstream of drug-target interaction using a variety of in vitro/ex vivo techniques. In addition, the
candidate will play a key role in the development and execution of cell-based assays to characterize further the
activity of small molecules. Specifically, expertise with some or all of the following techniques is essential:
Specific Responsibilities:
● Basic protein characterization involving SDS-PAGE, affinity capture, and established enzyme assays
● Characterization of protein expression by Western blot analysis
● ELISAs to measure proteins, cytokines and tissue-specific markers in tissue culture supernatants,
biological fluids and tissues
● Perform assays on various targets to evaluate new chemical compounds
● Cell culture, in vitro and cell-based functional assays
● Cell proliferation assays with primary cells and established cell lines
● Quantitative RT-PCR
● Construction of bacterial and eukaryotic expression vectors
● Transient and stable transfection of established mammalian cell lines
Qualifications:
● BS or MS degree with 3 to 8 years pharmaceutical/biotech research experience
● Experience with a broad range of molecular biology and cell biology techniques
● Experience with small molecule evaluation using medium to high throughput
assays based on enzyme activity, protein-protein interactions or cell-based
functional assays
● Experience with fluorescence microscopy and or flow cytometry desired
