| Description: | Freedom Meditech, Inc. (Freedom) is an equity-financed, developmental stage medical device company commercializing novel technologies to manage diabetes. The company is developing a patented, non-invasive ocular glucose measurement device that could provide an alternative to the finger prick method of diabetes blood glucose measurement and monitoring. The consumer-ready product is planned to operate like binoculars with light being shined on one eye for less than one second and having a digital glucose reading displayed on the device. With 171 million diabetics worldwide (20 million in the US), the company will address a market for testing of $9 billion ($3 billion in the US). Freedom maintains primary research and development operations in Northeast Ohio with supporting corporate and engineering activities in San Diego, CA. Description: Based in Cleveland Ohio, the Senior Research Scientist reports to the Vice President of Product Development. General duties include: • Implementing R&D activities related to core technologies including noninvasive glucose sensing and diabetes screening platforms (both ophthalmic). • Taking the lead on clinical animal studies related to the development of our polarimetric-based glucose sensor: __1) Coordinating and scheduling the animal studies, __2) Providing protocol oversight, experimental planning and pre-system calibration prior to each experiment, __3)Conducting the animal investigation, system sterilization and storage, and related data processing/analysis. • Writing grant proposals to external agencies. • Re-engineering activities associated with technology commercialization. • Managing collaborations with various contract research organizations. | ||||||
| Qualifications: | • M.S. degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, physics or related discipline with experience in the design of optical systems REQUIRED. Ph.D. degree preferred. • Experience with optical polarimetry and animal research preferred. • Excellent oral and written communication skills REQUIRED. • Experience writing proposals to federal agencies preferred. • Experience with the following software preferred: MATLAB, LabVIEW, Solidworks, TracePro, and FRED. • Candidates currently residing in Ohio and Michigan preferred. | ||||||
