| Director of Product Marketing (Menlo Park, CA) | | oDesk | | We seek a product marketing superstar to develop and execute a product marketing strategy that combines deep understanding of online service providers and employers building online workteams. You must possess the exceptional product sensibilities and communication skills required to inform the product roadmap and seamlessly present oDesk in a way that wows our target customers. With responsibility for messaging, user segmentation, product positioning, competitive intelligence, and defining and tracking product and business success metrics, this is a hands-on position that requires someone who has a mastery of marketing fundamentals and is an excellent writer.
This position reports to the VP of Marketing and must work collaboratively with counterparts in Marketing and across the organization, especially in Product Management, Operations, and Business Development.
The position is full-time and is based in our main office in Menlo Park, CA
Key Responsibilities:
* Establish sustainable and differentiated product positioning for all oDesk products.
* Define in-product marketing strategy and messaging including: on-boarding, user education / tips, feature nomenclature, in-product help / tutorial requirements, feature tours, etc. Partner closely with Product Management (including UED) and the rest of Marketing to deliver against the in-product marketing strategy and drive massive product adoption. You must be able to write compelling user-ready content.
* Develop holistic product marketing strategies for new products, partnering with Product, Operations, Communications to drive widespread awareness of new products and features.
* Develop business cases & MRDs, sharing results and recommendations with Product Management to ensure a product roadmap that delivers against a unique and differentiated market position.
* Understand the competitive landscape, customer segmentation, and customer satisfaction drivers through research.
* Define product launch readiness and success metrics in coordination with Product, Operations, and other stakeholders.
* Track user feedback and business metrics to measure success and adoption of new and existing features.
Job Qualifications:
* 5 - 8+ years of business experience with 4+ years of product marketing experience with consumer or SME Internet products.
* Demonstrated strong performance in prior roles, with increasing levels of responsibility and independence; demonstrated ability to lead strategic marketing initiatives.
* Track record of working effectively across the organization including influencing the product development process through customer insights, and the ability to translate user needs into product requirements and marketing strategies.
* Ability to understand a complex competitive landscape and effectively prioritize the projects that will deliver the greatest impact on objectives.
* Experience with one or more businesses of similar complexity to oDesk's preferred (e.g., marketplaces, payroll service, online collaboration tools.)
* An extensive track record demonstrating exceptional written communication skills and design sensibilities.
* BA/BS required. Outstanding academic achievement preferred.
* Ability to juggle many projects and priorities while remaining pleasant to work with.
