Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager is responsible for helping define segments to target, establishing both business and technical relationships with prospective customers and managing the day-to-day interaction to build long-term success.

This role is also responsible for representing RightScale at conferences, customer meetings, industry roundtables, and the media.

The ideal candidate will possess both a business background that enables them to drive an engagement and interact at the C/VP level, as well as a technical background that enables them to easily interact with software developers and architects.

The candidate should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions.

This position includes both a revenue quota and MBO goals based on strategic goals being met.

The job responsibilities include the following:

Initiate, grow and maintain long-term relationships with customers that represent new revenue streams and significant ongoing strategic relationships for RightScale
Evangelizing and consultative selling of cloud computing and RightScale
Negotiating contract and business terms
Execute against a strategic sales development plan, by territory or category
Fill and manage the business development pipeline
Present and train product offerings to new and existing customers
Handle ad-hoc inquiries and effectively screen for potential partnership opportunities
Help identify and develop co-branding and marketing opportunities with Sales and Marketing staff
Present at trade-shows, user groups, CloudCamps, conferences and seminars
Provide regular communication with Sales and other staff to augment efforts and share support
Prepare and present detailed business review to management on a quarterly basis
Travel up to 30% of the time

The ideal candidate has qualifications that include:

5 – 7 years business development or sales experience
Strong network of contacts
Experience with consultative selling in SaaS or related industry
Ability to negotiate contract terms, pricing, renewals and cancellations
Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude for learning
Ability to set and maintain goals, welcome feedback and enjoy success
Comfortable presenting over phone, in person and through web conference
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Mastery of Salesforce, adaptability for internal applications
A BS/BA is required; technical background in CS or MIS is preferred
